Nest Audio Speaker Pair Right Speaker stops working when connected through Bluetooth

I added two Nest Audios to my Google Home. These devices were purchased in February 2022 and are configured as follows:

System firmware version

Left: 279716

Right: 279716

Cast firmware version:

Left: 1.54.279716

Right: 1.54.279716

I've created a Speaker Pair from these two devices (Left/Right Stereo Audio). I enabled Bluetooth Pairing on the Speaker Pair and have connected it to my Windows 10 computer for use as desktop audio. I test the Speaker Pair stereo audio on Windows and can hear sound on both Left and Right sides when first connected, but after some time passes- the right side stops playing sound and the left side still works.

The only way I've found to temporarily resolve this is to disconnect the Bluetooth device (Speaker Pair) in Windows and reconnect it, which gives me stereo sound for a short while before the right speaker drops again.

Is this a known issue? I've checked Bluetooth drivers on Windows 10 and verified there are no errors, and I've tried factory resetting the individual speakers, recreating the speaker pair, and also rebooting each individual speaker in the speaker pair. The issue persists.

Hey there,

I think I resolved my own issue. It seems like it was an issue with Windows. I've been testing the fix today and have been good for about 6 hours, which is a record.

What I did is Edit Power Plan --> Change Advanced Power Settings.

In there, I selected Wireless Adapter Settings --> Power Saving Mode --> Setting and changed it from (Low/Medium/High) Power Saving to Maximum Performance. I also did USB settings --> USB selective suspend setting --> Setting: Disabled for good measure. My device is PCIE, but the driver looks like it might represent the Bluetooth as a virtual serial device. I then restarted the Bluetooth Support Service.

I think the power saving may have been causing issues with the connectivity. Not sure why this would only cause issues with one speaker, but like I said- I haven't had any issues yet today which is a huge step forward.

I am still having the issue. The attempting fix I posted did not resolve the issue. I am still experiencing the playback loss of the right speaker in the speaker pair several times a day. Is this a known issue being tracked by Nest developers?

Hey @Muddi,

I have the exact same situation as @jbudzinski . I have tried with my Windows laptop and also my Wife's Laptop running Ubuntu.

When the devices are not paired, there is no lag in playback between audio and video. However, when paired there is a lag and eventually one speaker stops playing.

I have the exact same problem!
Connecting to the pair with macbook it either works on left side only or has seconds of delay

it is seriously annoying since I bought the second nest just to use it while watching movies and now it is literally useless

I would appreciate a feedback from the engineering team.

Same issue here while connecting the pair to a Google TV.

When I start playing videos or movies the sound is ok in both channels, randomly the slave device in the pair quit playing sound SMS no way to restore it but I need to reconnect everything.

Every device is connected to the same 5ghz access point that is few meters away.

It seems that the issue is only while using the pair as stereo Bluetooth speaker.

Until now I had no issues while casting.
