I'm trying to get my mute button on my Google Home to work it is saying that it is muted but it's not I've already tried moving the switch back and forth tried looking to see if there's anything in the button to make it not work but it's not doing anything.

Thank you for your message. That is definitely an odd issue that your Google Home device keeps saying the mic is off, when it is not. I would be more than happy to help find a solution with you. First, I have some questions to get a better understanding of this situation:

Which Google device is this post in regard to? (model name, generation number if applicable)
Are you trying to mute your microphone? Or are you trying to have the microphone on?
When you say the mute button is not working, what do you mean? Is your device toggled on mute but still responding to commands?
Does your device still power on and work besides this issue?
Have you tried to do any troubleshooting steps? (reboot, reset) If so, what have you tried so far?

I have the same issue with mine now, it just started happening in the middle of the night.

Any options to fix this?

It is happening with me too. Despite the mic switch is on, it says the mic is off intermittently. I guess there is any hardware issue with mic button for multiple people. Please help fixing it, Google, or else it will just become a paperweight.

I am having the same problem with one of mine. I have completed resets and everything and it still says it’s muted even though the mike is actually on

There are a lot of folks complaining about the same issue, wonder if it is a software or hardware issue? Google doesn't seem to be taking any responsibility for this common issue.

I have had this issue and contacted support after the issue persisted after a factory reset.

The following procedure they provided seems to have fixed it so far for me :

1 - Unplug power from device for 10 seconds

2 - plug back in and wait for the 4 LEDs light up on top

3 - Repeat step #1 and #2, for 10 times

4 - Once that's done, plug back in, and do a factory reset.

Not sure about unplugging and plugging it in 10 times but I found a factory reset solved the problem.

I'm having the same problem and now no matter what I toggle the mic to, it is just almost immediately saying the mics off and won't listen to any commands.

I contacted Google Customer Service. They were very helpful but unable to resolve the problem. My GH is just over two years old so out of warranty. They "escalated" my case to the engineering team for advice. That was over 2 weeks ago and I've heard nothing. The only solution I can see is to bypass the mic switch following the YT video posted by Joe Does Stuff (How to fix the microphone on a Google Home Mini the EASY WAY!!! Google Mini Repair). I haven't tried it yet but I see no reason why it won't work. The only downside is the mic will be permanently on.

I'm having the same problem also, it started last night, keeps saying mic is off and a couple of seconds later mic is back on. I've already unplugged and plugged back in, still happening. It's so annoying!!

encountering the same issue as everyone else here on my google home mini, model HOA. It started a few days ago where it decided that even though my mic switch has never been turned off from the day that i bought it, it started telling me "the mic is off". I have tried a factory reset, i have tried the unplug and replug 10 times trick offered here with another factory reset, i have tried the bypass video to keep the mic on permanently, nothing is working. Google, if you have a support page with many many people all saying theyre starting to experience the same issue at the same time, it would be really nice if someone could respond with something actually helpful, or send out an update to the software of the devices to fix this issue instead of ignoring your support page.

This has become an issue for a lot of people it seems, mine started doing this last night . @User123456 PLEASE FIX IT OR I WILL HAVE TO SWITCH TO ALEXA EVEN THOUGH I DON’T WANT TO!!!
