Thanks, but I am not posting here looking for suggestions. I am just adding pressure to Google, hoping they can implement this basic feature that is widely needed, while giving other users a place to also cast their votes. As you and I both pointed out, this request has been ongoing for years, and hence I believe it should be addressed.

That said, in case it helps other users, I have summarized the suggestions from your recommended page (and given some explanations why they are not sufficient, at least in my specific case).

1. Put it higher. (As mentioned on the same page by OP, this makes it less usable by everyone.)

2. Put brussel sprouts (or other hated objects?) in front. (This obviously makes it harder to use it when information is displayed, eg a cooking recipe. I also have them in many other rooms besides the kitchen.)

3. Put an acrylic cover over it. (This sounds like too much work, and would likely be ugly.)

4. Teach toddlers to use it as a tool by giving them responsibilities like setting timers. (Ok for responder's 3 year old; no good for my one year old.)

5. Remove bar stools. (See 1, not convenient for or applicable to all my 7 rooms, e.g. the one on my living room end table, or the one on my night stand that uses Soli to monitor my sleeping.)

6. Display pictures of scary things (spiders, clowns etc.). (That hurts the usage as a photo frame meanwhile. I also doubt it will deter my fearless one, though TBH I didn't try it due to the primary reason above.)

Over all, it seems obvious to me that the right solution is to fix it in software. I bought all these hubs (and echo shows btw) to interact with by voice (for responses by display), and almost never use the touchscreens. I'd like to have the functionality to turn off the touch screen, to protect my 1 year old.

Re posting this thread from last year as it was locked for no reason I understand.

Please build the option to disable touch control, for child safety. I have 7 nest displays from 1st Gen to 2nd to max. They are becoming dangerous to my toddler as she has access to environmental controls.

This should be a simple change for a programmer and one that is badly needed. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting.

@MplsCustomer, thanks for the info.

@ericgyehghub, we appreciate your insights. In line with this, we’d like to encourage you to send a feedback for any features that you’re looking forward to using with our Google Nest devices. Let's all hope for these possibilities to happen in the future.

Let us know if you have other questions or concerns, otherwise we'll be locking the thread.

I'm new to this forum, but I don't understand the purpose of locking the thread. Is it that users are discouraged from supporting one another's feedback? Only allowing private feedback seems to me a very poor way of understanding customer needs, and in fact seems like an attempt to actively suppress and hide needs.
