something went wrong

I have 1 home speaker and 4 minis (1st gen). everything worked fine until a week or two ago. Now every time we give a command to any of the devices google says “something went wrong”. Ive reset all devices and updated the app. Ive also rebooted the router. All of these things ive done several to dozens of times.

Hey elahrairah,

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. To eliminate network issues, please try setting up one of your speakers on a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Home and Mini device). Once done, check if your device will have the same behavior.

Hi Muddi, so far it is working fine when connected to the hotspot. What should my next steps be? Keeping it connected to the hotspot is not a permanent possibility for me.

Thanks for trying. To confirm, did you change any settings on your router lately? Also, please check if iPV6 on your router is enabled. If yes, please disabled it then check if your devices will have the same issue. You will need to call your router provider to check the settings.

Hi, I have not changed any settings. Unfortunately Im not able to disable IPv6 at this time (need to keep it on for work)

Hello elahrairah,

Upon reading the thread above, your Google Home speakers are working when connected to hotspot, most probably has something to do with your modem/router settings already. Updates or upgrades can sometimes affect the connection without you knowing since theses stuff happens over-the-air, through WiFi.

If you have time or the luxury to do so, kindly disable the IPv6 to see if the behavior persists. Also, if you have an active VPN, turn it off. And if you're able to access your modem/router's GUI page, try to set the DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 for the primary and 8.8.4.4 for the secondary. You can ask help from your ISP or your modem/router's manufacturer.

Move one of your speakers near your WiFi and give a command, see if it still says "something went wrong".
