How to setup the default news provider for Google Nest Hub

I have two Google Nest Hubs (1st and 2nd gen) and, until recently, when I said, "Hey Google, play the news", they would play me the local and world news from BBC.

Now 2/3 of the time it plays yesterday's news from RTE. So not only is the news out of date, it's for a different country.

I vaguely remember setting this up when I got the first hub, but can't find the relevant settings now.

I want it to play BBC news no matter who asks (it very rarely detects that I am me, and my wife and son don't have accounts).

Thanks for visiting the Community.

A quick question: is it working when you ask it to play a specific news source via voice command? Try this one" “Listen to or Play (the news from) [provider name]” .

You can customize your news preferences.

Make sure the customer's mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as the speaker or display.
Open the Google Home app.
At the top-right, tap the account icon.
Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow icon > choose another account or Add another account.
Tap Assistant Settings > News.
Add or remove news sources.

Hi there,

Thanks for the update. Make sure your home address and work/home location are updated in the Google Home app. Also, it should be synced with your Google Maps location. Rebooting your devices and reinstalling your Google Home app might help too.

Thanks again, I've reset "app locations" and checked the other settings, which were correct and haven't changed in years (since long before I got the hubs).

The hubs do crash fairly regularly, and do get regular reboots, at least once a week.

Hey there,

I want to add some to narrow things down. Could you ask your Nest Hubs 1st and 2nd Gen these questions: "Hey, Google! What's my name?" and "Hey, Google! What's my address?" I want to double-check if they answer with the correct information set on your account including the address. From there we could partially know why the news, when played, is of a different country and out of date.

It's intermittent.

Sometimes it identifies me (50%), sometimes it thinks I'm my wife (10%), the rest of the time it doesn't know and suggests setting up voice recognition.

When I ask for my address it answers, I couldn't find any results for "address" or that it didn't recognise my voice.

Thank you for the information. It would seem that a factory reset is needed to revert your Nest Hub to its default and original settings. If you have already tried retraining your voice to Google Home then you can proceed with the factory reset otherwise, tell me first.
