Hi all - I 've used Google products, most every type, for the past several years. My current issue pertains to the Google Home app and Sony speakers with Chromsecast built-in. I hope this is an approriate chat to post my issues.

My home has a total of 11 speakers comprised of Google Mini's 1st and 2nd generation, Hub, Hub Max, the Max speaker and two Sony items; one HT9 soundbar with Chromecast built-in; and a Sony DNR-1080 receiver with Chromecast built-in. All speakers are on my wifi and connected to the Home app.

My issues rely primarily with the Sony soundbar and the Home app. Until recently, I lived in California, with Spectrun internet in my home. I used a Netgear router and the Nest Wi-Fi mesh system., With the exception of You Tube Music sporadically dropping all or a number of speakers, all speakers were accessible through the Home app.

Fast forward to several weeks ago. I moved to Portland. I now have fiber internet through Centurylink. All speakers were connected to the wifi and accessible through the Home app. I am no longer using the Nest mesh wifi. I am using the wifi through the Centurylink modem. Due to hardware issues, Centurylink swapped the fiber modem to a newer version last week, It's model C4000XG. This is when the trouble started. Here's the issue... I have several speaker groups established. An "All Home", and several others. All speakers are accessible through the Home app using verbal commands through any Mini/Hub device, with the exception of the Sony soundbar. The soundbar is on the wifi and I can see it in the Home app. However, the soundbar has become completely unresponsive to starting as part of a speaker group. I can start the speaker individually, but the Home app will not allow me to start other speakers once the soundbar is playing. I get the message "something went wrong". Also, when I start music verbally or through the Home app on the "All Home" speaker group, only the Sony soundbar will start, even though every speaker is listed in the group. So, I created another speaker groupd titled "All house" and added all speakers. When i start music on this group it will play all speakers with the exception of the Sony soundbar.

I have reset the Sony soundbar numerous times and readded to the Home app and rejoined speaker groups. No improvement. I have chatted with Google support on numerous occations. Although they have listened to the issues, they are unable to help and are now recommending it's a Sony issue and to contact them. i would be more inclined to go this route if the speaker groups had not previsouly worked fine on a different modem and wifi network.

It's as if my Home App info in the cloud is not updated for what is happening in my home. I have also had issues getting the Home App to update with the changes I make to the speaker groups.

I know this post is long, but I am at my wits end and hoping, hoping that someone, anyone in this community can speak to these issues and has a probable resolve.

Thank you!

Hi Jeff150,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― let me get this information out first for better understanding.

Most Google Nest speaker, display, and Chromecast devices should receive an over-the-air update to allow those devices to continue to function in speaker groups. Refer to the Cast firmware versions below for the minimum versions.

Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest Wifi Point > 1.56x

Chromecast Audio, Chromecast (2018), Chromecast Ultra, Nest Hub (1st gen), Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Google Home, Google Home Mini, Google Home Max > 1.54x

Speaker groups containing non-Google speakers or Cast-based devices may not work properly in speaker groups if you don’t receive a software update. You may notice that those devices don’t play audio in a speaker group. Third-party Cast devices like soundbars with Chromecast built-in will need to be updated to Cast firmware 1.52.272222 and above.

Note: Not all device models will receive software updates. As a result, they may no longer work in speaker groups and will need the Device Utility app to complete each setup.

Refer to the Find your device's firmware version help center article for how to find a device’s firmware version using the Google Home app and keep me posted.

Best,

Dan
