Hi. Not a first time set up. We’ve had the google home account for a while linked to a nest door bell. We recently added smart bulbs and a Google Nest Audio speaker to help control everything.

My husband set up the ‘home’ and invited me to join. I’m signed into my own Google account on the app.

When I attempt to add my iOS devices - an iPad and an iPhone I can successfully add one of them. When I attempt to add the other - the Google Nest speaker can’t be put into pairing mode. I’m receiving an error “Unable to enable pairing mode” on the home app and when attempting by voice I get a similar message.

I’ve re-boot the speaker by unplugging it and plugging it back in - and I’m still only able to connect one iOS device and not the other.

Hi. We’ve set up our google nest audio speaker but for some reason I can’t seem to pair both my iPad and my iPhone to the device. Once one is connected it kicks the other off. Is this because they’re both using the same Apple ID? What difference would that make?

Hi folks,

@MikeClark thanks for the help.

@Kilomike911, that certainly hasn't been easy for you and we're here to help. For confirmation, is this for a first time set up? Are you using a Google Account when setting up your Nest Audio on your two iOS devices? If your Nest Audio is already setup on your iPhone, once you install the Google Home app on your iPad and using the same email address, your device will automatically be available. That is the ideal set up. It would help a lot if you could you check if you have multiple Home structure and see if your Nest Audio is linked to either one. Follow the steps below:

Open the Google Home app.

Tap the name of the current home.

Select a new home from the drop-down. If a drop-down list doesn't show, there's only one home in the Google Home app.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Hi Kilomike911,

Are you trying to connect your iPhone and iPad to your Nest Audio via Bluetooth? If so, check the steps below.

Step 1. From the Google Home app.

Open the Google Home app.

Touch and hold the tile of the device you want to pair.

Tap Settings > Audio > Paired Bluetooth devices > Enable Pairing Mode.

Step 2. From your mobile device's Bluetooth settings

On your mobile device's Home screen, tap Settings > Bluetooth.

Turn on Bluetooth.

Tap the name of the speaker or display you'd like to pair.

Check this link for more information.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Hey there,

It would seem like you're trying to connect both your iPad and iPhone to your Nest Audio via Bluetooth at the same time, right? If so, then I apologize since it's not possible. You can only connect devices via Bluetooth with a 1:1 ratio. We appreciate people who are keen on sharing their thoughts with us. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take this as feedback. Let me know if you have other questions or concerns, otherwise I’ll be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Cheers,

No. Not at the same time. I’m just trying to set up the speaker as a Bluetooth speaker available to both devices to use. I want to be able to use either the iPad or the iPhone to play music, podcasts etc to the speaker.

For example, my son has audio books on the iPad he’s like to play on the speaker so I want the google speaker to be available to him to play to from the iPad.

I have podcasts on my iPhone I want to play on the google speaker. So, I want to be able to connect to the speaker from the iPhone.

we’re not trying to connect both devices ‘at the same time’ but we want Google home audio to be paired on both devices so they are available when we want them.

Just like how the speaker is paired to both my iPhone and my husbands android. Either of us can play audio to it when we select it as a Bluetooth speaker.

For some reason though, if I have my iPhone paired (or the iPad) and I try to connect another device - any other device - pairing to the speaker will not enable any longer. This is when I receive the “Unable to enable pairing mode” message.

Hey Kilomike911,

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. Please note that your Nest Audio can pair with multiple Bluetooth devices, but it can only connect with one Bluetooth device at a time, so before a new device is paired, the Bluetooth device may need to be unpaired first. To disconnect a device, you can say "Hey Google, disconnect Bluetooth" or your son can disconnect from his phone.

Hope this helps.
