I saw a few posts about this already but no resolution.

My main requirement of the nest hub (2nd gen) was to replace my digital clock on my nightstand.

Currently, when the lights go out the clock on the display becomes so dim that It is impossible to read.

I've tried every variation of settings in the google home app but nothing has worked.

My current settings are :
Low Light activation - Dark

During Low Light - show clock

Minimum Brightness - Brighter

Screen timeout - off

Theme - Auto

Auto-brightness - all the way brighter

Color matching - I've tried all three options.

I wish there was a way to just disable low light activation completely. I rather just have my standard clock display on at all times.

I'm currently debating either going back to my old digital clock or setting some sort of flashlight to constantly point at the hub and prevent it from dimming. Yes that desperate for a fix!

Hi Drudoy,

That certainly hasn’t been easy for you — let’s check it out. To confirm, is the LED light still too dim when set the minimum brightness to brighter?

Let’s try the night mode and see the difference:

Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.

Open the Google Home app.

Touch and hold your device's tile.

At the top right, tap Settings > Notifications & digital wellbeing

Tap Night mode > Enable night mode.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Just tried enabling night mode. It made no difference to how dim the screen is. And yes, my brightness is set to “brighter”

is there anyway to prevent the device from entering night mode/ dim screen? I would much rather just have the default watch interface stay on throughout the night.

Hi Drudoy,

You can try this: when it’s day time, disable the ambient mode by swiping the screen upwards. On the lower left corner on the settings tray, make sure the letter “A” is not shown or blocked. Monitor until it gets dark and see if your Nest Hub follows its environment.

Looking forward to your response.

Same thing, its fine throughout the day but when all the lights are off in the room, the screen goes very dim and you have to have perfect eye sight or be very close to the device to see the time.

Currently the options are low light activation Dark or Dim. There needs to be an additional option for Off.

I dont believe this is something that can be changed in settings. I've tried all possible menus. There needs to be an update pushed to disable the night mode completely.

Hi Drudoy,

I understand. A few more troubleshooting:

Open the Google Home app

Select your Nest Hub and open the settings tab on the upper right corner

Select Display:

Set Minimum Brightness to Bright

Set Theme to light

Set Color matching to Ambient only or Never(try each)

Tell me how it goes.

The following options gave me a little bit more brightness but still not enough to be able to read the time.

Minimum brightness- brighter

Theme- light

Auto brightness offset - brighter

Color matching - never

The device still enters night mode when lights are off and becomes unreadable

Hi Drudoy,

Good job in finding those settings! Let’s try this instead. Disable Night mode:

Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.

Open the Google Home app.

Touch and hold your device's tile.

At the top right, tap Settings > Notifications & digital wellbeing

Tap Night mode > Enable/Disable Night mode.

Add with all the settings you just tried above, that should bring us closer to home.

Cheers,

Unfortunately, this night mode setting only affects volume. I have it disabled but it does not make any difference visually.

I still can’t see the time when the room is dark and the screen auto dims.

Hi Drudoy,

That's weird. Is there a way you can send us a video showing the display so we can check on it further? Also, what's the cast firmware version of your Google Nest display?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.

Open the Google Home app .

Touch and hold your device's tile.

At the top right, tap Settings Device information.

Under "Technical information," find Cast firmware: X.XXX.XXXXX.

Looking forward to your response.

Still having the same issue. I tried to capture A video but it dosent come across in the video because the camera adjusts to the dark room.

The clock is visible as I mentioned but it’s extremely dim. There is no current way to disable night mode visually. Only audio can be disabled in night mode.

Unless there is a software update, my problem will remain unresolved. Plenty of other users have reported this as well on both this forum and others.

I totally understand that these are good features to use with your Nest Hub 2nd Gen, but these features are not available. I'd suggest you submit feedback about it.
