Can my Nest Mini work with all features even if my phone isn't on the same network?

I am a college student currently living in the dorms, so I have two different WiFi networks that I can use. Devices, like an Xbox or the Mini, have to be connected to the devices network, while tablets, computers, phones, etc, have to be connected to the "wireless" network. This means that I am forced to be on two separate networks, and thus I can't use both on the same one. Is there any way I can use my Mini fully without having to be on the same network, or did I just drop $50 for something I'll have to wait to use completely until I move back home?

They are both wireless, but I'm not sure how I would set it up vice-versa? The article doesn't seem to answer that either. Thank you for responding!

To answer your question, there are no other ways but to make sure that all devices are connected to the same network where your Nest Mini is connected. It is best if you could use your Nest Mini to a home or private network that doesn't require additional settings before connecting a device.
