Next Hub has different assistant voice to every other device

For some odd reason, the Nest Hub in my bedroom has a different voice on the assistant to ever other device. Why? How do I fix this?

Many customers have reported this issue in this forum, and on some threads Google Nest has acknowledged the issue. We've been getting different Google Assistant voices for many months now.

Hi, I had this when there was Fuchsia on one NH2 and not on the other NH2 (women's voices are slightly different).

Hey folks,

Sorry to hear about your experience — let's get this sorted out. A few questions: when did the issue start? What specific Google Nest Hub do you have (1st, 2nd, Nest Hub Max)? What other devices do you have? What is the current firmware version of your Nest Hub? Is it linked to the same account where your other devices are connected?

Let's go ahead and try rebooting your Nest Hub by unplugging it from the power source and leave it unplugged for 1 minute. Once done, check if you'll still have the same issue.

Ah, right.
Ok, I checked that and both my Nest Hubs (2nd gen) are on the older OS (the Linux one?) while the Hub Max is on Fuchsia. I'm also enrolled in the public preview so hopefully, the Nest Hubs will update soon and fix this on their own.

The issue has always been like this since I activated the hubs. I have 1 Nest Hub Max (with Fuchsia OS) and 2x Nest Hub 2nd Gen (I have 3 but I have not activated /added the 3rd yet as I'm still setting up my home office). The issue is on 1 of the Nest Hubs only.

I've unplugged and rebooted it several times and it hasn't made any difference.

This started many months ago. It happens on all 4 of our Nest Hubs (one of which is 2nd gen), our Nest Mini, and our Nest Hub Max. We also have Google Nest cameras and doorbells. Firmware versions: 10.20221207.2.109 on all except 2nd gen Nest Hub, which is on 10.20221207.2.100038, and the Nest Mini, which is on 348702. All of our Google Nest devices are on the same account and otherwise work fine.

Most of the devices have been rebooted more than once since this problem started. We simply never know which voice Google Assistant is going to use when responding--a male or a female voice.

I am located in Australia. The language I use is English (United Kingdom) and the assistant speaks with a UK female voice for all devices except the one nest hub (2nd gen).

Ok so in the process of doing a video to show you the issue, I have inadvertently discovered that I appear to have fixed it by changing the language to a completely different one and then back again to English (UK). Seems that doing so, when looking up what language I had set to answer your last question, has now forced a reset/resync of sorts and all now have the same voice.

Well, this is ridiculous.

At your suggestion, I changed my language to English (Australia), then closed the Google Home app.

I then re-opened the Google Home app, and without warning, got the new version of the Google Home app. I've now been searching for the language setting for the Google Assistant to change it back, and I simply cannot find it; all the settings are rearranged. And of course, Google Nest Help does not have any information at all on the new version of the app.

This is simply absurd!!!!

Hi @MplsCustomer , what I did was go into the Google Assistant app on my phone and change the "Language" under "Popular settings" and then the voice (the assistant uses) in "Assistant voice and sounds" under the "All settings" section.

I've looked around a bit in the new app, assuming you and I are looking at the same "new" version - v3.1.1.14.

You can access the settings you are looking for, by going to the "Settings" tab at the bottom of the screen, then look for "Google Assistant" under the "Home features" section. From there you should see a blue text button that takes you to "Manage all Assistant settings".

Thanks. I don't use the Google Assistant app on my phone. But I discovered that if I go to Settings and select Google Assistant, and then select "Manage all Assistant settings", I can then find "Languages".

I was just peeved that Google Nest decided it's rolling out the new version by flicking a switch on the server--without warning to the customer--rather than the customer choosing when to upgrade.

Yeah, that can be somewhat annoying when it happens with an app you use regularly and rely upon. I'm all for updates, providing they make things better but a radical change to UI like this should come with a warning or some sort of advanced notice.

The Google Home app version on my iPhone and iPad is 3.1.108.

Yesterday afternoon, as I noted above, the Google Home app version abruptly flipped to the new version on my iPhone between logins, but not my iPad or on my son's iPhone. It's weird having 2 different versions in the same household.

Got it! The updates on the Google Home app are slowly rolling out. Also, the updates will be available on your iPad and phone if the iOS version still supports the new version of the Google Home app.
