Saying "stop" while a timer is set and music is playing will always cancel the timer.

I have a Nest Audio, Nest Mini, and Home Max. For all of these, following these steps:

"Hey Google, set a timer for 10 minutes."
The timer is set.
"Hey Google, play KQED."
KQED, the radio station, will start to stream.
"Hey Google, stop."
The timer will be canceled.

Steps 1 and 2 can be swapped with the same result. It would be nice if it would ask what to do when the command is ambiguous, or if it was possible to chose the default action to be stopping the music rather than the timer. Have a timer stop is usually more harmful than having music stop.

Anyone have any tips or tricks for this?

I do know that we can say "stop playing" or "cancel timer" so it does what we want, but we've been saying plain-old "stop" for so long that it's hard to break the habit.

I appreciate the details you've shared. We've tried the same commands you're using and it seems to be working. Could you try to reboot your router and Google Nest speakers by unplugging them from the power source for a few minutes. After everything is plugged in, try the same commands and see if it will make any changes.

Hi Princess,

I just replacement router, which was handy. I unplugged the devices and waited, then plugged them back in. In all 3 cases the same thing happens:

"Hey Google, set a timer for 10 minutes." > Timer is set.
"Hey Google, play KQED." > KQED starts playing.
"Hey Google, Stop." > The timer is canceled.

It still feels like "Stop" shouldn't automatically cancel the timer unless the timer has ended and is playing the notification noise.

Thanks for the detailed info. How about the other way around. Instead of setting the timer first, try playing music and followed by setting the timer. Let's see if you will get the same results.

If I do it the other way around it still defaults to canceling the timer.

Hi Princess,

After a factory reset it behaves the same.

Hey Google, "Set timer for 15 minutes." Timer is set.
Hey Google, "Play KQED." KQED starts playing via TuneIn.
Hey Google, "Stop." Timer is canceled.

If I play KQED first and set the timer second the stop command also cancels the timer.
