Nest hub is not playing music via my bluetooth speaker

Hi, yesterday my nest hub updated. After that the bluetooth submenu in nest hub settings appeared (not via the app), but at the same time my speaker connected to google nest hub via bluetooth stopped working. Nest hub sees the connection, confirms that it is connected but plays music via its own speaker. I tried restarting, re-pairing the speaker and nothing works. Would be really great if you could help me 🙂

Hi dx6nxr,

This is not the experience we want you to have, let me help you. A few questions: which Nest speakers and Bluetooth device are we working with? Is it a Nest Hub or a Nest Hub 2nd Gen with Sleep Sensing? Is the music playing on your Nest speaker or your Bluetooth speaker?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers, then your Bluetooth device.
Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
Restarting your phone might also help.

Once done, if the issue persists, let’s revert your Nest Hub to its default settings by doing a factory reset and setting it back up. Here’s how.

Hi, thanks for your answer! I have nest hub 2nd generation and my bluetooth speaker is made by samsung. I tried all steps you described, did a factory reset, but it haven’t helped. After connecting to bluetooth speaker, audio submenu in google nest hub settings (in google home app) -> standard speaker for music -> and there i see my bluetooth speaker connected and shown as default speaker for music, but music is still playing on nest hub’s speaker and not my bluetooth speaker. I also tried to connect to another bluetooth speaker, but outcome is the same.

I have the same issue when connecting my Nest Hub gen 2 to my Fosi Audio bluteooth receiver. I used to be able to connect to the receiver flawlessly, but in the last couple of weeks something broke. The nest hub shows as connected, but the audio just plays out of the hub instead of the speaker. I've removed and readded the bluetooth device and done a full hard reset, to no avail. Connecting to the speaker from my old Google Home speaker still works fine. Perhaps this is a bug in the new Fuschia OS?

Yeah, in my case it also happened the next day after update. The day it updated i haven’t used this feature but there was no such problems before update whatsoever. So im pretty sure that this update broke it and it actually is really annoying, cuz it was really important feature for me and also the reason why i bought it in the first place.

Hey folks,

Chiming in, could you check if you have the same issues when connecting a phone/tablet to your Nest Hub (2nd gen) via Bluetooth? Also, could you check the Bluetooth version of your speakers?

Please remove or forget the Bluetooth device from the paired list of all previously paired devices by saying, "Hey Google, clear all my devices." Once done, please try connecting your speaker again and see if it still has the same behavior.

I have the exact same problem as above. Bluetooth appears to work, the speakers work fine from other Bluetooth devices, I've restarted and cleared and factory reset the hub and done a special dance, but it hasn't worked at all since the update. It's almost like something changed that was nothing to do with external devices, user settings or hardware that caused this problem that coincides with the update. What an amazing coincidence that all these people have the exact same weird problem at the same time.

Hi, yes, i tried it and i can connect to next hub and use it as a bluetooth speaker.

Bluetooth version of my speakers is 2.0. They worked flawlessly before the update.

I already tried to remove all paired divices from and reconnecting to them, as well as factory restoring it. Nothing seems to help.

I have had a nice setup for a while now, but it no longer does what it's supposed to do. I have a Google Nest Hub connected to a Bluetooth receiver. This receiver powers on an amplifier and its accompanying speakers, but only when an actual audio signal is received. The rest of the time, the amplifier remains off even when the Google Nest Hub is connected to the receiver. This used to work perfectly until about three months ago because Google Assistant voice, alarms, and notifications were always played through the hub, while Spotify music, YouTube music, etc. played over the Bluetooth connection. However, recently, all audio is being routed through the Bluetooth connection. So, when I ask for the time, it now goes through Bluetooth as well, causing the external amplifier to power on, Google tells me the time, and then the amplifier powers off after a minute or so. I don't want this, and it didn't work like this in the past.

I have searched the entire internet but haven't found a solution. In fact, it seems like I'm the only one experiencing this problem. Even on the Google website, it states that all notifications, alarms, etc. are played locally through the hub, even if you have a Bluetooth connection (although this information may not have been updated yet).

I have already reset the Nest Hub to factory settings and disabled updates, but the problem persists. I also couldn't find any settings in the Google Home app to ensure that all notifications go back to being local.

Does anyone recognize this issue and have any advice?

Same problem here. Used to work fine with my klipsch set up. Now it doesn't. Shows paired and connected but sends no audio and still sounds on its own speaker. I’ve tried everything.

Same here, been working for almost 2 years now and with update not working. I ask Nest Hub to play on my Yamaha reciever speakers via Bluetooth. It connects. It even starts playing for maybe 3 seconds, but then it just stops. While doing this, I can see the Nest Hub is acting weird. While playing Pandora the timer for the song just flashes across the screen like it is buffering or something.

Hi, any progress regarding the problem? I am experiencing exactly the same problem. For a year, Samsung soundbar worked with Nest Hub 2 without any problem.
After the update, it connects to the Nest Hub 2, from the remote I change the volume of the Nest Hub 2, change songs but the music does not play on the external speaker.
I restarted Nest Hub 2, soundbar, paired again. Nothing helps.
I would appreciate any help.

I gave this problem also. If I connect a Bluetooth speaker, everything plays through it, responses and alarms.

This is a software update issue and Google needs to fix it. If not, I will be seeking a refund on a considerable number of Google devices.

As an update, I can connect my Nest Mini's and they work just fine. ..has to be a software update issue.

To be honest, I don't think Google gives a toss about users. They don't even seem to monitor anything here.

My advice, return all your Google devices as "not fit for purpose" and invest in an alternative infrastructure.
