topic Mixed wires in Nest Thermostats

Hello,

I am a newbie owner of a google nest and am doing research on how to start. I’ve read that W is for heat and that W2 is for second level heating. However my original thermostat has the white wire going to W2 and nothing to W. The heat does work “poorly” so I’m wondering if this is the reason why this whole time. Should I set up my google nest as the original to W2 or to just W how everyone says it should be?

Was the original wiring just mixed up??

I have chatted with a google representative and here is the answer I got after providing him the model number of my HVAC system that has a heat pump system. I was not aware that I had a heat pump system. Posting here in case anyone else is googling for an answer.
