This W5 error is getting annoying

The thermostat won’t find or connect to any networks. It’s frustrating to call it a smart thermostat when it doesn’t cooperate regardless of how many times I’ve restarted it or reset the wifi.
Where do I go from here? Sledgehammer would surely make smarter and it is tempting.

If you don’t have constant power to nest it does act up when internal battery gets low. Need C/common wire to nest so it’s has 24 volt power all the time. Pull nest off it’s base & see what wires are connected and if any wires are loose & not connected to anything you might be able to use to connect to C but you need to connect same wire to C at your air handler/furnace control board also. Your Thermostat is probably defect, Google is familiar with this error and offers a replacement. So call Google Support

Can you let me know what to do please? I have the same issue, my thermoses has been working fine and disconnected from the internet 15 days ago. I get a w5 error message when I dig into the settings. I have restarted the device, reset the network twice and restarted after each reset. Each time I get to the network page, it’s just w5 once you click okay, it takes you back a level. It doesn’t seem to be able to do anything else. Is there some hardware reset I could do ?

You have probably the error nest.com/w5. I simply dropped nest.com/w5 as een URL in my browser, then it brings you to a google-support page

Select your language/region. Follow the instructions trying to solve the problem, like restarting the NEST and finally showing the ways to contact Google Support. I called the Google Support Line and after I mentioned the W5 error and that I went to all the steps to solve it, they offered my a replacement.

I'm having this same issue, and have tried all of the troubleshooting. Resetting wifi, reset thermostat, factory reset, disconnect from app, etc. Now it won't even find any wifi signals in the near vicinity even if I type in the actual wifi name.

Hello Mark, I saw it in my network settings before I did the factory reset.

I have not let it continue to search for wifi because when it did that before it seemed to drain the internal battery to the extent it would not wake upon approach. It would wake after about 15 seconds of turning the dial. I selected “Do Not Connect” overnight and it was functioning properly this morning, and has functioned perfectly all day.

As I try to do it now, it has been searching for a few minutes and found no networks when I know there are many networks in range (my own and my neighbors).

So since I have done the factory reset, it has not be on wifi at all. It’s a Nest Next Gen 3 * think that’s what they’re called. Less than 1 year old.
