If you do not have a smart phone, you will not be able to take advantage of remote control and probably need to stay with your old thermostat. Another choice would be to use a Nest Pro Installer with the advantage being you would get an extra two years added to the basic one year warranty.

I just got a new Nest thermostat installed today. My phone is too old to get the app, so I'm trying to us my laptop. It tells me to enter a code, but the Nest display just says "Continue setup with Google home app". Instructions online tell me to "press Nest dial for Menu, then settings, etc." Nothing happens when I press on the dial. I'm not going to buy a friggin new phone just to get this thermostat to work! This is ridiculous. There ought to be a way to manually operate a simple thermostat.

The online help and forums are NO help. I wish I'd never gotten this stupid Nest. I'm going to find a regular thermostat and get rid of this thing.
