Can you update thermostat software via USB?

I have nest learning thermostat, it got stuck in an update a while back, which i manage to stop by letting the battery fully drain. However now it will not connect to or recognize any WIFI [say error 'nest.W5']. My guess it was the incomplete software update. Can I update via the USB and a laptop (as wifi is not recognized)? Btw Ive tried various shutdowns and resets suggest online, no joy with those

I'd also be interested in somehow forcing a firmware update on my 3rd Generation Nest as mine is stuck on 5.9.5-2, has been so since November 2022., and stays on that firmware no matter which wifi I connect it to.

Turns out a replacement unit was needed (Wi-Fi chip not working)

@Gerard, try resetting it to the factory default and re-add it back to your app. Just a reminder, after the reset all your set schedules and other configurations will get deleted.
