Well example, we had it set on 70 and woke up at 1:30 am this morning freezing. Looked at nest and it showed it was 61 in our house. Hours and hours later it finally got back up to 70

This may be a normal function of the thermostat.

I have the heat set on 69. Currently the thermostat is reading 68. The heat is not turning on.

If I “click” the thermostat once to the right; it goes on no problem, so the heat itself works.

I’m just more or less confused as to why it’s not turning on to actually hit the desired temp?

Over the summer with the AC didn’t have this issue at all.

the machine is a heat pump. Is this heat pump related?

thanks much.

Hi avc_dc,

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat is not heating to your desired temperature. Let me take a look at this for you. A few questions:

Are you located in North America or Europe?

What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?

Does the thermostat screen indicate that it’s actively calling for heating?

What type of furnace do you have? (gas, electric, etc.)

Did you turn off the power to the HVAC system?

Did you recently turn off any breakers?

Have you recently experienced a brownout or blackout?

Is there a light switch near the heater that controls an outlet?

Do the LED lights blink on the HVAC control board? If yes, locate the light.

When was the last time you changed the furnace's air filter? A clogged air filter can cause an HVAC system to not activate.

Have you experienced extremely cold weather lately?

Is this the first notable temperature drop of the year in the area?

Keep us posted.

Best,

Zoe

What ended up being my issue (I’m the one who opened the ticket) was not realizing there’s a deadband of about 1 degree or so.
For my example with heat set to 69 but it was on 68, I was always assuming it would “click on” right away. Once it hit a “lower 68” the heat would kick on.

someone on here can probably explain it better. Haha

We have a gas furnace. If we have the heat set on 70 during the warmer part of the day it stays around 69 but when the temps drop at night it becomes 60 and 61 degrees in our house and won't warm up. It will tell us it will reach 70 in around 1 hour but never does so through the night and early morning we freeze because we have no heat. The furnace continues to run during this time.

I just installed my nest thermostat and I have the heat set on 69. Currently the thermostat is reading 67 and The heat is not turning on. I can manually raise the temp to 70 and it will go on but only for a short while and the thermostat still says 67.

I don’t know why it’s not turning on to resch the desired temp if the inside thermostat on my app says 67. Is there something I didn’t set up correctly?

It’s correctly setup I’m sure.

Since there is that band of 1-1.5 degrees you have it set on 69, and the 67 is showing, it could actually be 67.7 and it hasn’t quite hit the band yet.

if it drops to 66 inside, then I’d say you have a problem. But not yet.

I turned the heat to 70 and it came up a couple degrees before it shut off, but the thermostat never reached 70. It’s a heat pump but the system is only 6 years old.
my Google Home app says the temp inside is even lower than the nest thermostat says.
Its about 40 degrees outside.
