I have two Nest E thermostats for my boiler heating system and a third on the way. They use the red and white wires only and Im using the Nest app. One is dated 42nd week 2018 and echo temp (leaf) set point at 64*. The other is dated 29th week of 2017 and echo temperature set point is at 62*. The 2018 thermostat I acquired used and the 2017 I recently purchased new in the wrapper with security seal in place and when I installed it the software updated to the latest version.

Why would the set points for the Echo temperature (leaf) be different? I can only assume because of manufacturing date difference between the two, but you'd think that the software versions being the same now would have the same set point for echo temperature. 🤔

I have 3 of the Nest E’s with my boiler system and noticed issues with the app lagging behind the schedule temperature. It does it both on iPad and iPhone. What happens is the schedule is set to start heating at 6am and the boiler comes on but the temperature in the app doesn’t update to the higher temperature, then minutes later it will but the other two can take up to 10 minutes to update to the higher temperatures in the schedule. Then at night when the schedule lowers the temperatures it can take up to 10 minutes for the app to show the correct temperatures. Server issues? Don’t believe it’s my router or WiFi because I can manually set AWAY it it performs this function right away. Same with raising or lowering temps manually.

Thoughts?

The third one I got has the set point temperature like the 2018 Nest E @ 64*. All three are 1st generation. So I determined the early 2017 has a hardware difference since all the firmware is identical.

Hello Dfixit1,

I can understand the frustration you're experiencing with your Nest Thermostats and the lag in temperature updates on the app. While it's indeed puzzling, there are a few potential factors to consider.

Firstly, it's great that you've ruled out router or Wi-Fi issues by successfully testing the manual functions. This suggests that the thermostat itself is capable of responding promptly when operated manually. However, it's unusual that all of them experienced the same issues at the same time, as they are mainly relying on the network's signal strength.

Another aspect to consider is the communication between your Nest Thermostats and the server. If there's any interference or obstruction in this communication, it could result in delays. Check for any physical barriers or electronic devices that might be affecting the signals. It's also worth ensuring that your Nest app and software are up-to-date. Updating these elements might resolve or mitigate the delay issues you're facing.

If the problem persists after considering these factors, perform a sequential reboot on your router, phone, and thermostat. Factory Data Reset at least one of them and proceed by adding it back to the app to isolate it.

Let us know how it goes.

Best regards,
Mark

It’s strange that Ive only caught the issue with the schedules. One thermostat called for heat at the proper time in the schedule but the app still displayed echo temperature for night. And I physically looked at the other two thermostats and they didn’t increase in temperature at the scheduled time. But I can use the app to increase temperature or manually change to Away and it works instantly.

Defiantly a bug somewhere.

thanks for the suggestions

The 2017 thermostat I received had an issue with sensing when you walked by and the battery. Because it was NIB Google warrantied it and shipped a replacement promptly. I was surprised of the great customer service.

Thank you Google!

Hi Dfixit1,

I know that you're encountering some perplexing issues with your thermostats, especially regarding the schedules not syncing properly. I understand when the scheduled changes don't reflect on the app or the devices as expected. Your observation of the Eco temperature displayed at night despite the correct schedule is indeed strange.

I know it's not an ideal solution, but I appreciate that you've found a workaround by manually adjusting the temperature through the app or changing to Away mode. In the meantime, please share your feedback to our product team and keep observing your thermostat's behavior.

If you have any further updates or questions, feel free to share.

Warm regards,
Mark

1. Well this is the 3rd time this morning Ive tried to request support. Two times directly through app but access denied. Signed in and denied again. Updated app the other day.

2. caught app not updating with schedule temperature again. Schedule called for heat, boiler turns on but app not displaying schedule temperature X3 thermostats. One by one they slowly updated but took 6 minutes. Rebooted router and modem the other day.

Took screenshots of thermostat display with correct temperature and denied access.

Hello, anybody there?
I’m having an issue with the app in iOS, iPad AND iPhone! My schedule calls for heat with 3 Nest E thermostats, I open app and see heat is on but temperature is displaying nighttime temperature of 64* but all 3 thermostats are displaying schedule temperature of 68*, 68* and 66*. Something is wrong with this app or the server. The app is updating displaying in Heat mode though. The funny thing is if I manually put in Away Eco displays almost instantly. 🤔

Hi @Dfixit1,

I apologize for the inconvenience and I understand you're having trouble with the Nest E app on your iOS devices. It sounds like the app is showing the wrong temperature for your thermostats, even though they're heating according to the schedule.

Here are a couple things we can try:

App Refresh: Sometimes a simple refresh can clear up glitches. Try closing the app completely (swipe up on iPhone or double-tap home button and swipe up on preview on iPad) and then reopening it.

Restart Devices: Rebooting your phone or iPad can sometimes resolve temporary app issues. Try restarting your devices and see if that helps.

Check Network Connection: Make sure your phone or iPad has a strong internet connection. A weak connection can sometimes lead to inaccurate data display in apps.

Force Quit and Relaunch the App: On some iOS devices, a force quit can be more effective than just closing the app. Here's how to do it:

Swipe up from the bottom of your screen (or double-tap the home button on older iPhones) until you see app previews.

Swipe up on the Nest app preview to close it completely.

Relaunch the Nest app and see if the temperature displays correctly.

Report the Issue to Nest Support: If none of these steps work, it might be a broader issue with the app or server. It's helpful to report it to Nest support so they can investigate. Here's a link to their support page: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp?hl=en

I hope this helps! Let me know if you try these steps and if the issue persists.

Regards,

Mario.
