Thermostat won’t turn furnace on

Hello! Frequently when I notice it feels a bit cold, I open the app and even though my temperature preset is 69, the actual temperature is 67. It says “heating” and the furnace isn’t on. I even try to bump up the heat to trigger it, and it just won’t click on. What the heck?!

If you managed to get this solved that's like winning the lottery! I have had a similar issue with mine since OCT 2023 and till today after a million emails back and forth and still they have managed to avoid and ignore the issue I am having with mine. Their customer service is quite literally the worst I have ever experienced. The back and forth is unexplainable!

@Mar21ral, I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your Nest Thermostat and furnace. It can be frustrating when the system doesn't seem to respond as expected. A few questions to isolate:

What type of furnace do you have? (gas, electric, etc.)
When did heating last work?
Did you turn off the power to the HVAC system?
- Did you recently turn off any breakers?
- Have you recently experienced a brownout or blackout?
- Is there a light switch near the heater that controls an outlet?
Do the LED lights blink on the HVAC control board?
When was the last time you changed the furnace's air filter?
Have you experienced extremely cold weather lately?
- Is this the first notable temperature drop of the year in the area?
Does it have a common wire?
Gather the power readouts in the Equipment settings.

Hey there- so I had a HVAC tech come out and confirm that the issue is with the thermostats not recognizing the wires. We stripped and trimmed them, and it still doesn’t work. We’ve bypassed the system to confirm that the wiring is good, and it is. They’re brand new, a friend got them via a rebate program with their electric company and gave them to us. They said it’s a very common problem with the newer Nest thermostats, so I’m looking into other options.

Thanks for updating me on the situation. It's great that you had an HVAC tech come out to troubleshoot, and it's puzzling that even after stripping and trimming the wires, the problem persists. Considering this, exploring other options might be a wise move. Do you still have the Nest Thermostat? When did you receive it? Also, have you had a chance to reset and reconfigure them?

I do, we received them on December 23. I didn’t install them until the end of January.

I see. Is your thermostat still installed? If so, can you share with us its current power readouts and a photo of its wiring setup? Also, by any chance, did cooling ever work with the thermostat?

It is- we never tested cooling, and the wiring setup is correct. It jus says it's not recognizing them, and its a mix of the Y, W, G from both thermostats. I am not sure what you mean by a power readout? I see where I can look at an energy schedule, but it's only the last few days because we did the factory reset.Forgive me but I don't see how I can attach a photo here?

Chiming in — I'd like to help. Check out the guide below on how to gather your Nest Thermostat's power readout.

POWER READOUT:

Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E:

Go to your thermostat Quick View menu.
Go to Settings.
Look for Technical Info.
Select Power.

Nest Thermostat 2020:

Open the Google Home app tap the thermostat tap Settings .
Select the Device Information.
Choose Technical Information.

Also, please click this link then scroll down to your response and hit reply. Check for the camera icon or click the three horizontal dots to expand the toolbar. From there, you'll be able to reply and share a photo.
