Nest thermostat not detecting W wire

After a couple tries I managed to get everything but the heat working. The W wire is clean and inserted properly but it won't detect it.

Old thermostat had RH, Y, G, and W/E wires hooked up. I connected them to the R, Y, G, and W receptacles on the nest.

Heat worked on old thermostat. What are my options here?

@karimbonix , by chance can you post a picture of the old thermostat with the wires still attached to it? Also, tell me more about your HVAC system. Do you have Gas Heat?

It's a gas furnace and standard AC, all forced air. I just moved in so not too familiar with it yet. They seem to be about 8 years old.

@karimbonix ,

allow me if I may to educate you a little bit about your HVACVAC wiring on your thermostat. Basically the thermostat is responsible for sending calls for heating or cooling to the equipment. To do this it takes power that’s arriving on the R wire And then send it on either the Y wire for cooling call, or the W wire for heating call. The G wire is usef to turn on the blower fan.

@CoolingWizard it doesn't seem to be detecting my W wire at all then. When I check wire status in the settings it sees it as empty.

@karimbonix , please try this, press the tab of the W wire and remove the W wire. Take a picture of the W wire so I can see the bare copper conductor.

@aguilarmateo I returned it and got an ecobee that is working perfectly. Thank you for offering though.
