I hope someone has a better answer, but it seems like the Nest Temperature Senor's are poorly designed and barely work in any meaningful way. This might be outdated, but I doubt it:

We go to create an account and set up sensors, and they are claiming to still be linked to the old account. Previous owner can no longer access the old account because its deactivated.

Fast forward 90 minutes on the phone with Nest support saying that they cannot do anything for us

How do you un-associate a nest temperature sensor from a nest account that is unavailable?
