Nest compatible help

Hi I went through the prompts when I bought the nest and it said it was compatible. But when I tried to install it and checked off the wires the app said it was not compatible. My current wired attached are Y, G, R and W. I don’t have a c wire. I’m not sure what wires I should check off in the app so I can install it. Thank you.

First check which model of thermostat you have:

Nest Thermostat (2020), Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen)

Nest Thermostat E, Nest Learning Thermostat (1st - 3rd gen)
Setup using the Nest app. The QR code and setup key are in the settings on the thermostat itself and are not printed on the device. Follow these steps: Add your Nest thermostat to the Nest app - Google Nest Help

If you've checked those things, does the error still occur?

Thank you. It looks like it is 4th generation (Model No. g4cv2). When I am going through the prompts after scanning the QR code to install and it asks me what letters/wires my current thermostat has, I don't know what to check off that is correct so it is compatible. I was able to put up a picture of my current thermostat wires.

The suspicion is because you're missing the "C" or common wire. Nest thermostats are designed to use very little power, and in many cases they can use your system’s heating and cooling wires to get enough consistent power. But sometimes, you may need to connect a common wire (C wire) or power accessory, like the Nest Power Connector, to make your system compatible.

You may need to connect the common in the unit so power can be used (it could be pushed back into the wall or clipped at the end), that may require an HVAC tech or someone familiar with HVAC units unless you're up to speed and comfortable doing that.
