Nest Thermostat off line when internet down

While out of town, my internet went down. Thermostat also shut down.

Will Thermostat always shut down when internet connectivity is lost?

Your Nest Thermostat goes offline when it loses internet connectivity. However, it should still function as a basic thermostat, even without an internet connection.

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

What Nest thermostat model do you have?
What's the software version of your thermostat?
Are you trying to connect to the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz network?
Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the thermostat?
Are you controlling your thermostat from the Nest or Google Home app?
Has there been any recent change in the home Wi-Fi network?
Are you getting any error messages?

Thanks for the reply.

I have no problem reconnecting. My concern is that when I was out of town for a week, the internet went down and my thermostat did as well. I came home to a freezing house at 45 degrees.

Thanks for the follow-up information. Since your Nest Thermostat is disconnecting from the network, this behavior can be related to the power. Sometimes, if the thermostat isn't receiving consistent power, it might drain the battery too quickly or experience frequent Wi-Fi disconnections.

Please share the following information:

Power readings:

For the Nest Thermostat (2020) and 4th Gen > Go to the thermostat > Go to the thermostat Settings > Equipment > Power info.
In case you have Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E > Go to the thermostat Settings > Tech Info> Power info.

Let's check a few things:

Check for physical damage: Inspect the thermostat display. Remove the thermostat display from its base and check if any connector pins are bent.
Connection: Ensure that the wires are connected properly and check if the thermostat wires are secured in their terminals and all the buttons are down.
Charge the thermostat: If you have the Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Learning Thermostat E charge the Nest Thermostat for at least 1 hour. For Nest Thermostat 2020, replace the batteries.
