Hi Stu-in-SJ,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that you need help checking if your connection is okay, and I'm happy to assist you!

I recommend connecting the orange wire to the OB terminal. This wire helps to activate the heat pump correctly.

Disconnect the W2 and Y2 wires. These wires are used when you have auxiliary heat.

After making these changes, please check if your system works better.

I also recommend visiting Common thermostat wires guide to check and learn about the function of each wire.

Please let me know if this helps.

Regards,
Manuel

We replaced our broken AC+Furnace with a:
Heat Pump: BRYANT 38MURAQ60AA3 ULTRA Quiet Heat Pump 5T
AirHandler: BRYANT 40MUAAQ60XA3 ULTRA Quiet Air Handler 5T

I'm not positive the installer has the wiring/setup correct, as

The heat at the Vents is registering between 77-83 degrees (50 degrees outside)

When Heat - Stage 2 kicks in...it seems like it's just pushed three times as hard.

It seems a lot of effort to keep the house at 67-68 degrees (San Jose, CA) and our first winter bill is $200 more than last year with the furnace.

Our wiring doesn't seem to match what I've seen online for other Nest +heat pump configs.

When I questioned the installer he said the o/b wire wasn't need for my configuration.

The system we got is supposed to be multi-stage. We don't have a secondary source of heat..just the heat pump.

I'd upload the wiring diagram, but I don't see the camera icon for uploading pics.

Y1- Yellow

W1 - White

Y2 - Brown

W2 Aux - Darker brown (or black?)

G - Green

C - Blue

OB -No Wire

* - Empty

RC - Red

RH - Empty

There is a orange wire that is not plugged into anything...just tucked back in.

Also if your suggestions are to re-wire.....is there any harm if somethings plugged in the wrong connector?
PS. I can't tell where the wires actually go in the airhandler.

Thanks for any help !
