&lt;P&gt;Your thermostat wires are a stranded wire and also you’ll probably find that your system is operating at 120 V AC. Nest thermostat only operate on a 24 V AC. &amp;nbsp;Use a multimeter, set it on AC voltage and measure the voltage between the R and the C and see what you get.&amp;nbsp;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
