W2 wire from heat pump twisted with W from Air Handler then to W1 on Nest

So in an effort do duplicate my previous wiring I have the W2 wire from the heat pump twisted with W from Air Handler then to W1 on Nest. Everything else seems to be in order. Things appear to be working but I fear this might be keeping the 2nd stage heating on the heat pump on all the time. But this was how it was. Should I run the W2 wire from the heap pump directly to W2 on the Nest? What will be the benefit of doing this other than it seems the right way?

The picture above the nest pic is of the previous thermostat control module. There were two more control wires coming out of it that went to the thermostat control screen that are no longer necessary. Only those two wires went to the thermostat control screen. As you can see there are two wires that were connected to W/W1 on the deleted control module. One went to W1 on the air handler and the the other went to W2 on the heat pump. This seems incorrect but I kept that configuration so now the they both go to W1 on the nest.

Regarding your question: Should I run the W2 cable from the heat pump to the W2 connection socket?

Yes, because the W2 wire may control your auxiliary heat. Then the (brown wire) must be installed in the W2 terminal.
If you have questions, you can check this: Identify a thermostat wire.

Please adjust your thermostat settings following the next:

Open the Google Home app.
Tap Favorites or Devices.
Select your thermostat.
Tap Equipment > Heat Pump.
Switch Use Heat Pump Balance on and choose a Heat Pump Balance setting.
Alternatively, turn Use Heat Pump Balance off and tap Advanced Configuration to manually adjust your heat pump settings. For details, refer to Advanced Configuration settings.
