My last nest fell off the wall some how and broke. So I ordered a replacement from amazon the other day. It showed up yesterday and needed a charge over night, no problem. Went to install the new one on the wall and I can not get pass the thing saying "Please remove the thermostat from the its base and re-install" Done this about 6-7 times and nothing. This is getting old, I think my best guess is going back to my first nest 3rd gen which the wifi is broke. That unit still works but it will not scan or connect to wifi networks.

Hi Bistate,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with your Nest thermostat that is showing you the message "Please remove the thermostat from its base, then reattach it." I appreciate all the steps that you already tried, I understand how frustrating this situation can be. But don't worry; help is here. In this case, please try the next steps to make sure that everything is in good condition:

Ensure that the wires are flat on the base: Detach the thermostat from its base and check that the wires lay flat on the base. Otherwise, the wires may be pushing the thermostat away from the base, causing the error message.

Loosen the screws of the base: Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws of the base by a half or quarter of a (counterclockwise) turn. This should help if the base is screwed too tightly to the wall.

Make sure the thermostat display is properly seated. Check the Nest thermostat from the side. If the white plastic from the thermostat base is visible around any of the edges, the Nest display isn't seated properly. In this case, seat the display.

Inspect the 20-pin connector for any visible damage. Check both the male and female ends on the base and display. Make sure the pins are straight and in good condition.

About your second Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen, could you please explain more about the Wi-Fi problem that you are having?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,

Jenny
