Woke up today to a thermostat that says “No Power” and “E298”.

I’ve had this installed since September of 2024. There’s nothing wrong with my furnace; it’s working fine, and there have been no changes. The “steps” that were given to previous users aren’t applicable to me; I have a C wire, and it’s connected, and I have an R wire, and that’s connected too. This seems to be a very common problem with Nest thermostats. Can I have one that works shipped to me? I don’t know what the model is, it’s the lowest price one they had on Amazon.

Thank you for posting in the community. I’m sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat seems not to be receiving power. I appreciate you taking the time to troubleshoot the suggested steps by the previous user. I’m happy to help you!

In order to provide you with accurate assistance, please answer the following questions:

How many wires are inserted? And how are they labeled?
Do you have a conventional system (furnace and AC unit) or a heat pump system (single unit for heating and cooling)?
Have you experienced any power outages recently?
Are the power breakers on, and are you receiving power to your home?
Are all wires securely connected to the terminals, with no loose or exposed strands?

In the meantime, please follow these troubleshooting steps:

Check from your thermostat settings if both the R and the C wires are detected. Check the wiring information by following these steps. If one of the wires is not detected, let me know. If the wires are detected, please provide a picture of your wiring in order to investigate further.
The wires may not be making a proper connection with the terminals. Make sure at least ¼ to ½ inch of the copper wire is exposed, straightened, and fully inserted into each of the required connectors. If necessary, strip and reinsert the wires.
