If you need a thermostat, DON'T TRUST GOOGLE!!!

I bought the thermostat 2 to 4 years after they came out.

They recently sent an email that says . . .

you, "will not have any Nest app or Google Home app controls, and will not support other connected features like Home/Away Assist."

There is no guarantee that they won't keep doing this over, and over and over again!

Buy someone else's thermostat, because you can not trust one that you buy from Google!!!

Completely agree, how is this helping the environment?
My previous thermostat lasted 25 years and was working fine when I replace it with a next, because of the environmental benefits. Don't get me wrong the thermostat is a huge upgrade and works fine, but the premature EOL is not what I signed up to.
Not to mention the price gauging google is doing. $149 offer in the USD and $219 in CAD (should be $205 in a 1:1 offer) which should be even lower since we don't have a Chinese tariff in place.

Completely agree. There is nothing wrong with my 2nd gen thermostat. Now, just because Google wants more gen 4 sales, they will stop supporting a perfectly good device? This is a money grab ploy!

This is total BS. E-waste through the roof - so much for being environmentally responsible in ANY way Google. Nothing wrong with this unit - great! Retiring it to generate revenue? Diabolical. Yes, I’ve had this unit for over ten years and if you value my loyalty, give me a real break on my replacement - like for free. Going to go with another brand instead. Sucks.
