Google nest (4th gen) is terrible

I had a old nest thermostat which worked fine but Google was ending support and via email suggested I purchase the Google nest thermostat (4th gen)...so I purchased it.

I installed the thermostat and can control the HVAC (non smart features working). So attempted to setup the nest via the Google home app and get an error when setting Wi-Fi with a generic error... something like:

"There was a problem setting up the nest thermostat"

Contacted Google support twice over a two month period and tried many different options (reinstall Google home app, tried different phones, tried mobile hot spot, etc ). Both times Google support said it was something on their side and will get back to me....it has been two months.

Frustrating...I have a Google nest, on a Google pixel phone, on Google Fiber, using the Google Home app and it does not work... frustrating.
