topic Heating issue in Nest Thermostats

I've just moved into a place with a nest controller for the heating, connected to a hot water tank & an old outside oil-powered boiler.

I've sussed out how to set the controller, but even when it's switched onto manual/heat/19⁰ and seems like it should be running, nothing happens. There's also a circular button on the wall next to the water tank, and it seems that when I press that, the heating comes on for a short while, then switches off again - even if both the controller and the app are showing that the heating is on. (It doesn't always seem to come back on when I hit the button either...mind of it's own!) Any ideas to help me keep the heating on for a bit longer/stop having to light coal fire!
