Turn off pre heating

Hi, when I use my schedule, if I want my heating to come on at 5am, it kicks in about 2am. How can I turn this off so that the heating comes on exactly when I want it? The Early On function on the Nest Sense setting is not there.

Same issue here. I have a heat pump system so Early On feature is available, but turned off. Still, the system preheats. I went into the heat pump balance settings and adjusted the preheat time to zero, still the system preheats. What gives?

Having the same issue, and it will kick on during my peak energy times which costs me 2.5x in energy even though my schedule is set to not come on until 8pm. REALLY frustrating.

I've noticed that although I have the Early On feature disabled and pre-heat set to zero, the system will *sometimes* preheat when the weather is particularly cold to prevent the aux heat from turning on (heat pump system). This is not consistent, though. When the temperature is 40F or above, it doesn't seem to preheat at all. But as the temperature falls, the preheat kicks on earlier and earlier.

I can't help but wonder if this is a feature and not a bug; it does seem to save me money as a heat pump can run longer for less $$ but if the aux heat kicks on, that's BIG $$$.

It is indeed inconistent and I agree it saves money as compared to the Aux, except when it runs during a high TOD rate.

If it's a feature, I wish I'd be able to counter it with a TOD shutoff.

FWIW - I was able to login to home.nest.com and there is an additional option under Heat Pump Balance there that I don't see on the iOS app. It's called "Choose Max Duration" and it was set to 5 hours. I set it to 0. Additionally, I set up Google Home routines to switch my thermostat to Eco mode from 4-8PM (Peak Hours), so that it won't override my scheduled temperatures and start preheating during peak hours. It seems to be working so far. Annoying that this bug has literally been costing me money, but hoping this workaround helps for now.

It would be nice if a *smart* thermostat could determine hourly energy rates and optimize spending by determining best times to run. That seems like something that can and should exist given the cost of the thermostat.

Oh wait, it does. The power company already can adjust my thermostat during periods of peak demand to suit their needs. Google just needs to get off their asses and make this a feature for customers as well, and not just billion dollar corporations.

The "Choose Max Duration" setting does appear in the app for me and I had set it to 0 already.

But I like the idea of the Google Home routine. Do you have one for turning on Eco and then another to turn back to Heat & Cool?

Yep that's correct, I figure I can just change it to cool in the spring. And/or Heat/Cool (not sure if that works via voice commands/routines or not)

Completely agree. As typical, Google seems to have abandoned developing new features for this project...really not a whole lot is "smart" about it these days compared to the myriad of other thermostats that have since come out.

Got the same problem. My "early on" feature is disabled yet the thermostat still kicks on early making it really hot at 4:30 AM. You would think that the "max duration" feature wouldn't be a consideration if the "early on" is turned off.

Don't you just disable True Radiant? I think this is the Nest Sense feature that handles the Time-to-Temp side of things. I like the idea of it knowing how long it takes to heat up to temp. I'm just not convinced it does. Mine shows my boiler kicking in 4 n half hours early to get up to 21°C from 18.5°C haha. Pretty sure that's not right.

in your app, select “Thermostat”, select “Mode”, select “Cool” and then your app (and thermostat) will only show the cool setting
