Sorry to hear about your experience with your Nest thermostat and also for the delayed response.

A few questions — what type of Nest thermostat is this? How many minutes did you charge it using a USB cable? Also, when you placed it back to the base, had you made sure that the wires are flat on the base and the display is properly seated? It might also help if you try to loosen the screws of the base by a half or quarter of a (counter clockwise) turn. This should help if the base is screwed too tightly to the wall.

Let me know how it goes.

Went to bed last night around 12:30. I turned up the temp to keep house warmer due to very cold weather. Woke up this morning and my downstairs zone was 50. Nest was off (Black screen) with red light blinking. I charged on USB and eventually saw this message "Please attach the display to its base". When I attach it I get a message to: Please remove the thermostat from its base, then reattach it. I do this over and over. I have also tried to reset by holding for in for 10 seconds or so. This seems to go through the start up it gets back into this strange loop. Any ideas?

Model <string>Display-3.4</string>

SoftwareVersion <string>6.2-22</string>

Hi. So I have charged it for many hours. I charged for 2 to 3 hours using USB. Yes wires were flat and display was properly seated. when I hook the base back up I will try to not make it too tight. the model /version if the Display-3.4. Is this what you are looking for.

Eventually I had to remove the Nest and hook up my old manual thermostat. I was planning to try to hook it back up and try it again.

I think there is something up with the new firmware. I’ve received two warranty replacement units and both are giving me the message, “Please remove the thermostat from its base, then reattach it.”

I charger the units overnight prior to attaching them to the base. As soon as I remove the old unit and attach the new unit, it gives me that message.

if it is the firmware, I really hope Google figures it out. I’m a bit frustrated with the experience so far.

Stat2411 / ALL

Still no solution. I was going to try to replace the battery but the reviews for the replacement battery were pretty bad. I figured why spend the time. I have to say I am pretty much done with #NEST. I ended up getting a #Sensi for my downstairs zone and it works perfectly and 1/4 the price.

I may try to hook up a separate C power wire and replace my upstairs thermostat with the NEST. Just not sure I want to put more time into this.

Dave

Hey Elm18,

I did find a solution but it was more of trial and error. I said in chat with support for about 2 hours for them to walk me through all of the troubleshooting tips that they had online that I did several times earlier. So I started a process of elimination and it ended up being the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation Base that you plug your AC wires into. Our went bad. I replaced that plate with a new one and instantly everything started working again. You would think there could be some type of error that indicates that housing where you connect your wires went bad. We ended up buying a new Nest in order to test my theory. First we just replace the Nest display and was getting the same issue. So we replace the C diagram plate and that was it.

Hope this is helpful. If your still struggling, they do sell the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation Base on Google store so you don't have to buy the entire unit for $50 bucks. Its showing sold out now and they do not offer it on Amazon. That is something they probably should look into if these bases are faulty.

Elm,

I found a solution to the problem. The base of my unit went back. Once I had eliminated every other cause that was the last thing to was to swap out the base. As soon as a had the new base plate installed everything worked like a charm. Hope this helps.
