Ive had the nest thermostat for 2 years now. has been working fine up until now. I have a C wire.

Lately Im noticing when the thermostat clicks on, I see a 3 minute delay message. Boiler goes on, then after 3 minutes goes off, then goes back on. Sometimes the boiler stay on till it reaches the desired temperature and sometimes it will go on and off because of the dealy. this morning the boiler went on and off in a span of 15 minutes. The thermostat screen never goes blank, so im assuming there is enough power going to it. Any ideas?

I was on the phone with nest. They didn’t help. I decided to delete the thermostat from the app. Then I did a factory reset on the thermostat. Once that was done, I added the thermostat back into the app and that seemed to do the job for me.

I think the last firmware update may have messed things up a bit.

There are a bunch of threads here with people having a similar problem with no help from Google or solutions. This is the first one I have found where someone had success. So, thanks Jmosk!

I'm trying a restart now, so I don't have to go through the burden of resetting everything. If that doesn't work, I'll try a reset.

Same issue for my AC. It would turn on for 30seconds then stop and go onto a 2min countdown cycle. I tried to do a factor reset many times which worked and AC would run normally but the very next time it would do the annoying cycle thing. What seems to be the issue for me is if I set the temperature to cool down any more then 2-3 degrees below the room temp it would cause the issue. If I set at 1-2 below room temp it worked! A little annoying as I have to slowly adjust as the room gets cooler but not as much as the delay cycle thing. Hope it helps!

Following, I'm having similar issue. Cooling goes to delayed for 3mins then turn Immediately back on during temp change on my schedule. Temp does not rise high enough to turn off. Just gradually increase around 2 -3 degress from room temperature until sunset but AC is turning off during peak hot part of the day when it should be still running.. Just started recently.

Yes, this is extremely annoying, and happening any time I try cooling. It only turns on for maybe 30 seconds, then waits 2+ minutes, over and over. No cooling really ever happens.

I am considering a non-google product as this is terrible customer service. My device is shutting off during peak hours and my home heats up to 80+ degrees. it did not do this with the old school mercury thermostat. Can google offer any support or should i throw it away and buy a superior product not made by google?

Hello everyone,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. I'd be happy to take a look at this.

The delay in message is usually caused by a power-related concern, as your thermostat only controls your system, but it appears that the system isn't efficient enough to reach the target temperature. Most of the time, it appears when trying to activate the system. With this, could you please help me with your thermostat's power readings? You can find them in the Technical Info for the Nest Learning Thermostat or the Nest Thermostat E and Equipment Settings for the Nest Thermostat 2020 model.

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Hi Sthelima,

I'm sorry for the late response. Can you check its Wiring Info in the Equipment settings to see if there's a missing wire detected? If so, try updating the thermostat by restarting it in its settings. Also, remove the thermostat display from its base and inspect that all wires are properly connected and that the tabs are pushed down.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Mark
