The Y1 wire is actually just for cooling. It appears that error code often indicates too much voltage on the wire. This could be a problem with the HVAC system rather than the thermostat.

If this is a new Nest installation verify the wiring to ensure it is correct. Compare to the photo of your old thermostat to ensure wires are labeled correctly and and connected to the correct terminal. Feel free to attach photos to a reply if you want a second pair of eyes looking.

Here is some troubleshooting information.

I’ve followed all the troubleshooting steps. I’ve restarted the nest, undone the wires and redid them. Trimmed them back to expose a fresh connection. Charged the Nest. I’ve done it all. No change whatsoever. The until was installed by me in 2017 and have not had any issues with it. The AC unit (the whole system) was freshly installed in spring of 2017 as well.

Just out of curiosity did anyone have their HVAC unit checked? It is absolutely possible this could be the thermostat, but also possible it could be the HVAC unit - especially if this is the first time to use for the season. I am curious if the thermostat is indicating an issue with the AC or an issue with itself.

in my case, it was the compressor. There was a short that caused the thermostats to tricle power which killed the compressor. Replaced by an awesome repair guy and now is working as expected.

I meant to say CONTACT not the compressor. It was not the base, and seamless plug the black looks really nice. According to the very good HVAC guy I used, there were indeed 2 shorts outside at the fan. This caused the nest to drain power. I had originally attempted to disconnect the wire, which was working but ultimately when we replaced the contact ($300) it started working and has been working as expected.
