I have a hunter 44260 thermostat now and it has 4 wires and a jumper. G, RH, RC jumped to RH, Y/O, and W/B. The instructions said remove the jumper but when I did the install it says it is missing Y1 (which was never hooked up) system is 24 volts. The system, heat and a/c work fine with the hunter.

It looks like you have a conventional system with a furnace and not a heat pump.

I would suggest wiring it like this.

Green - G to G

Red - RH to Rc (jumper to RC not needed)

Blue - Y/O to Y1

White - W/B to W1

The Nest 3rd GEN Learning Thermostat should work just fine without a common (C) wire, but I always suggest that you install one anyway. If you don't have an extra wire, then I would suggest using the Google Nest Power Connector device.

Thank you so much Patrick. You are correct that it is a furnace type conventional system. One question please . While it may be best for me to just get the connector, I believe I can run a wire since the furnace is only 20 feet away from thermostat in my attic. When you day run a common, where would I make the connection at the furnace. I have an old Goodman furnace. I'm very good with wiring, but I'm not sure about the phrase run a common from the furnace. I would assume (not smart) that the common would hook up to "C' on the nest, but where on the furnace.

Thanks again for all of your help and from stopping me from returning the nest. I really wanted it.

Have a great day

Best Regards

Dave

There should be a C terminal on the control board in the furnace. If your furnace only has wire-nut connectors, then you'll need to look at the schematic drawing on the furnace to figure out which color wire is the C wire.
