Could anybody please explain what time-to-temp and true radiant are.

I've had my system for at least 5 years and these pages still fail to give a simple description which clearly describes them.

Thank you for your reply. It provides a summary description of True Radiant, but I can't see a reference to Time-to-Temp.

But the description of True Radiant leaves me with questions.

1. If my house is at 0 degrees and would take 2 hrs to reach my required 20 degrees, what happens if I set the Time-To-Temp to 1 hr?

2. The description of True Radiant mentions Max Duration. Is this the same or different from Time-To-Temp?

3. If I go to set the Time-To-Temp, it states that it is 'ready'. How do I know what it assumes to be the Time-To-Temp?

4. How do I change the Time-To-Temp?

If I produced documentation like this, I'd be fired.

Roger Fitton

Hi @SolihullRog . I would be happy to try and assist. You can read more about TIme to Temp here.

In short this feature estimates the time it will take for the location to reach the desired temperature and will only show up for manual adjustments to temperature.

Alex,

Thank you for you email and note on this thread.

I have never fully understood my Nest system since buying it several years ago. The problems relate to how I should set the scheduling controls, and not what happens if I make ad-hoc changes to the settings via the wall unit.

I first asked the questions several years ago, but never received an answer.

This time, p3n4ng4 gave me a link to information that I was already aware of. It doesn't approach the question that I asked.

And you provide me with a link which, on the surface, looks useful. But, on reading it I find that, again, the response doesn't make any reference to the further 4 questions that I'm asking.

This being a Community website, I'm sorry if my exasperation boils over in front of people who aren't responsible.

But having been recommended to buy this system, and its subsequent acquisition by Google, I would expect that someone within Nest knew the answers to my questions, and would take the trouble to publish them. To me, they seem to be fairly basic requirements to operate the system in its most efficient manner.

I am asking a few basic questions whose answers must be known by many employees of Nest. But do I get an answer? No, and I can't even consider any follow-on questions.

Alas, I shall suffer from the amateurish actions of the company, even into the energy crisis which awaits us.

Rog

Thanks for letting us know of the situation @SolihullRog,

To briefly answer your questions:

1. You cannot change the Time-to-Temp, as it's not an option, but an indicator that shows you how much it takes for the temperature to reach the target.

2. Max Duration is the time which the thermostat should start preheating before you want that temperature reached (i.e. 0 hours > Thermostat will start at your set schedule hours and time to temp will indicate when it will reach the desired temperature; 5 hours > Thermostat will start preheating slowly so the temperature is as you wanted to the hour you wanted.)

3. It is showing "Ready" because there is no Max Duration at the time being, also when the heating is off, it will always say "Ready"

4. That is not possible, as mentioned in the first answer.

Let me know if you need more help on this matter. Also, there is a short article attached in here with all the details about the True Radiant feature, which incorporates all the options mentioned above: Learn about True Radiant and how to change settings
