Let's make sure you are good to go, and everything is working correctly. Do you mind me asking if you have a heat pump system? Are you able to send a picture of your current wire set up?

Hi,

We have a Heat pump setup. Installed a Nest Learning Thermostat last fall and followed the installation instructions

Heat was working fine on Heat mode, but when Set the unit to cool and the unit started blowing hot air and temperature was continuously rising. Even when the thermostat was set to Off, i could feel warm air blowing from the vents. Only after turning off the breaker, the hot air from vent stopped. Even Eco mode was not working as it was only blowing hot air.

I also set the unit to off, turned off the heat pump/AC/furnace at the breaker box, waited 5 minutes, then powered everything back on. Same result: warm air.

Interestingly, I also read the thread about going to settings | equipment | and looking at the heat pump, but those options don't exist. But maybe it's for an older/different model nest?

Any suggestions appreciated

Wire Connections

Just had a long talk with tech support (after having an AC repair tech come out) basically the only thing they will do is replace it if it's in warranty. If it's out of warranty then they require you to purchase a new one. That's it. If you're reading this I hope your thermostat is in warranty because they won't do anything if it's not.

My thermostat has been blowing hot air, even when it says it is cooling. I had my AC guy come out to take a look at it, & after double-checking everything, he was able to get the system to blow cold air, only when the nest thermostat was not plugged in, & he determined that the issue was with the thermostat. After I saw similar issues online, I contacted support, but they were not able to help me & were trying to make me jump through all of these hoops to get my thermostat replaced, even though it is still under warranty. They said they needed an invoice to see the work that was done, but my AC guy did not make an invoice, & getting an invoice will cost me money. I am upset because I have been a loyal Google customer, owning numerous speakers, subscribed to Nest aware, having multiple nest doorbells, a Google display & this thermostat & I cannot conveniently get it replaced. I will not be buying another Nest thermostat since this product is known for being defective & I cannot guarantee myself a replacement if it should go wrong again. A thermostat is not something I should need to get replaced every couple of months, especially at the premium prices I have already paid.

No solution. Google will replace the unit, but it has to be under warranty and needs to be checked out by an HVAC technician (make sure you get an invoice).

The only solution to the issue, according to Google, is to replace the thermostat. Before they will replace the thermostat you need to do 2 things though:
1.) Make sure the thermostat is still under warranty.

2.) Have an HVAC repair tech check your thermostat and give you an invoice detailing the problem.

If your Nest thermostat is out of warranty Google won't do anything for you. There is no software fix (even though it is clearly a software issue) and they won't replace the thermostat if it's out of warranty no matter how long you have used it (I bought a new-in-box 1st gen and used it for 6 months, but the thing was out of warranty already). They also require proof from an HVAC technician that the thermostat is to blame. You being able to install an older thermostat does not count, so you'll have to get a tech to come out and check the thermostat which (depending on your area) is around $100. Make sure you get the tech to give you a detailed invoice about the issue.

All of this to say, if your thermostat isn't under warranty don't bother with trying to get it replaced through Google. Save yourself the HVAC technician bill and just buy another thermostat.
