Can a Google Nest Thermostat with 6 wire connectors be compatible for my current 7 wire Honeywell thermostat? Please Advise. If compatible where does the 7th wire get connected? Thanks, Craig

current Honeywell Therm diagram

Do you know which type of HVAC system you have? The thermostat wiring has two columns of terminal labels -one for Conventional (inner columns), and one for Heat Pump (outer columns).

The "Nest Thermostat" will not work 100% with your system. However you can use a Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen.

To verify see the Compatibility Checker. You will need to know which terminal labels apply though to be sure.

It's maybe possible you could give up on some feature and use a "6 wire connectors" thermostat depending on which labels apply to your system.

Only the Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat is compatible with your system.

It would be wired something like this.

Blue - C to C

Green - G to G

Yellow - Y to Y1

Orange - O/B to OB

Red - RC to Rc (jumper to R not needed)

Black - AUX to W2

White - E to * (set for emergency heat)

Hi @wiltoncraig53 ,

As @Patrick_Caezza indicated the 3rd Gen is compatible with your system.

In some cases, if folks want to purchase a less expensive thermostat, they can even though they have "seven wires".

For example if you have a conventional furnace with A/C that has 2 stage heating and cooling. If your climate is such that cooling or heating needs aren't extreme, it is possible to not connect one of the 2nd stage wires. The 2nd stage simply would never be called by the thermostat. Further, in some cases it is possible to program the logic board of the furnace (usually with a jumper or dip switch) to automatically switch to second stage after xx minutes - in which case the furnace controls 2nd stage not the thermostat. I generally would not recommend, but it works. It is usually better to just get a thermostat that is 100% compatible.

This isn't a good option in your case.

Good luck with your thermostat purchase and install!
