Hi klook,

Thanks for the added information. Just to clarify since it looks like you have a heat pump system, are you also not seeing the cooling option or is it blowing warm air when you're calling for cooling?

Thanks,

My cool option on my nest has disappeared. It used to be there and now I only have heat. I have reset the HVAC system, I have checked the wires, and the wiring setup on the app is detecting the wire. How do I get the cool option back?

Update: I put the old thermostat back on and the AC kicked right on. So I agree with your HVAC guy it must be the thermostat.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with the cooling feature of your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?

How is your Nest Thermostat wired?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

I have the same problem also, I will respond to EdwardT. I have the Nest learning, Gen 3. I have chased my wires back to the unit to confirm what they go to. It works fine with the standard Honeywell I had before and am glad I kept it. It will not flip the reversing valve to the cooling mode. I have gone into the settings repeatedly and changed the O/B orientation 3 times. I have factory reset it twice, going thru the whole setup procedure each time. Seems this is internal to the unit as others seem to be having this issue.

Thanks for the response. We could try to swap wires on your Nest Thermostat to isolate the issue further. Could you share a photo of your wiring?

In response to EdwardT, I took the Nest off the wall again and put it back in its nice little box. The wires were hooked up per the instructions on one of your sites. All my wires were correct in color, except the Yellow wire, which was Brown but went to the yellow Y wire in the unit. All were hooked to the corresponding wires in the heating and air unit.

My orange wire, which should operate the reverse switch, was hooked up to the orange in the unit with an O...there was no B. In addition to trying to change things in settings, I put the red wire on the Rh instead of the Rc and it made no difference. I have now installed the old Honeywell twice and it works fine. I used to do maintenance and perform pm's on rooftop and ground units at a prison, I am familiar with the wiring. If it was a bad wire, my Honeywell would not work either. It is a defect in the Nest and I will just have to eat it and go buy something else if I want a fancy thermostat. This was a gift and will make a delightful conversation piece in my man room. Or I might sell or give it to someone that has a system that does not need the O/B wire.....hmmmm.

I see the cooling option in test mode? It is blowing air up to 100+ degrees when testing cooling mode. I tried heating mode test and it....heated. I used an infrared thermo to check temps.
