Google Nest 3rd generation thermostat won’t turn on

My google nest 3rd generation thermostat appears to be frozen and will not restart. I am trying to install my thermostat, the wiring is correct and I have a c wire. I plugged my unit in and a green light began flashing but the screen remained blank. I left it for several hours and the unit did not complete charging. I tried restarting the unit and this did not work. I then disconnected the unit and tried to charge it using a c cable for several hours. Again nothing happened. The restart process again did not work. Can someone please help me resolve this issue?

Have you tried just plugging into a wall outlet? The battery may be dead and needs a charge

Yes, have tried charging using the c port with no sucess. I believe the battery is dead and now will see if replacing it fixes my problem.
