If this has been answered, I can't find where...

My current programmable thermostat has just 4 wires coming in W, G, R, and Y (really blue, but tagged Y). The R goes into a jumpered RH & RC connection.

When I try to wire up the new Nest thermostat, putting R into R it continually get an E294 Error. Which seems to imply no power. Suggestions??

What wires did you select in the app when it asked you to identify the wire being used?

I don't feel like I ever got a definitive answer on this. to repeat, the wires I have coming out of the wall are: W, Y, G, R. On my current programmable thermostat there are RH & RC connectors which are jumpered together along with the R wire.

So when I'm trying to set up and install the Nest, what do I tell it I have for wires?

The color of the wire is meaningless as there is no standard.

The Rc and Rh wires are only used if you have a separate heating and cooling system. Most systems are combined and that's why there is a jumper between the Rc and Rh terminal at the thermostat.

The Google Home App during set up for the Google Nest thermostat will ask you to select which wires you have. The options are R, Rc, and Rh. In your case, you want to select the R wire only.
