Heat/cool mode on 2020 nest therm

So I have the mirrored nest thermostat...in the mode section you have heat,cool,heat and cool....can anyone explain what the heat and cool does? How it works And why I would use that setting? Thks

The heat/cool option works by you setting an upper limit and a lower limit and then the thermostat will automatically keep the temperature within that range by either heating or cooling the location.
