I have double stage heating with a Common wire (6 wires total) - Y1, G, W1, W2, C & Rh. When I disconnect Rh, it's silent, but once i reconnect, there is a very faint buzzing sound. I haven't had any errors on the nest related to charging or power issues, but I am wondering if this is common, or is something that could potentially be dangerous to leave unattended in the house. Thanks!

Also, also wondering this.

I only noticed the buzz recently, and am now wondering if it had been doing it all along, or if it's a recent development. Of course we've only been using the heat function in the last few weeks, so I suppose it's possible the sound only kicked in along with the change in usage?

I took the wiring out of the base and started putting wires back in one at a time (yes, the breaker power was flipped off for this experiment), and the buzz only occurs when the Rh is connected.

My system is normally wired with Y1, G, W1, C, and Rh. I have also not experienced any errors or charging issues that I'm aware of. Power readings all fall within recommended specs.

If I turn the breaker off, the buzzing will stop, if the breaker is on, regardless if the heat/AC is running or not, the buzz will continue. I recently had to have a replacement, and the buzzing is still present. It's wallplate related in my opinion, but what could be causing it is beyond me!

The buzzing also stops for me when the breaker is off, and is present whether heat/AC is running or not, though I noticed it's slightly more active when the heat/AC is running. It also stops if I take the thermostat face plate off and press the tab next to the Rh wire on the base (which I guess disengages the wire connection). Is it possible this is just a normal electrical buzz, or is the thermostat supposed to be completely silent at all times?

So far, the issue persists. I did have some electric work done a week or two later and I asked the electrician wth was up with the thermostat buzzing. He said it was weird, but that its low voltage so it "should" be ok. Who knows if it actually is though. What I have noticed is that it only buzzes when my bathroom lights (which are right on the other side of the wall) are on. Kinda goofy. And so far, the house hasn't burned down... Which is nice lol 😂

I noticed last week mine started doing this as well. My uncle is a licensed electrician and he said that the switch or wire is dirty so the buzzing is just the electricity arcing between the wire and the place where you put the wire. From what i gathered from him, i just needed to clean up the wires and ports the wires go into. I'm personally not an electrician so my explanation definitely sounds ignorant. I turned my breaker off and took the nest off the wall and noticed there was dry wall dust (we've been renovating around the thermostat) on the wires and such. I used a microfiber cloth and wiped the wires off and then dusted around the little slots the wires went into. I made sure no animal hair or particles from the rag were there before I put the wires back. Once I put everything back in place, the buzzing stopped. Apparently this is common for all thermostats. I hope this helps!
