C Wire Error

Hi,

My cooling system has been working fine and suddenly I am getting an error message (N261). Is this a true HVAC system error that needs an HVAC tech or is there a communication error with the Nest thermostat itself that can be fixed? Thanks

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear about your Nest thermostat. I want to dig deeper into this.

A few questions — what specific Nest thermostat do you have? How is it wired? Does it have a C wire?

N261 means either one of the following reasons below:

The C wire isn’t providing enough power to your thermostat.
Your thermostat might need a C wire or the Nest Power Connector to provide it with dedicated power.
If you're installing the Nest Power Connector and you get an E297 help code, your thermostat needs an update. On the thermostat screen, select Settings > Software > Update.
If you have already installed the Nest Power Connector, you might need to update the wiring info in the app.
