Cooling setting not found in Nest

My Nest thermostat only has a heat setting. I have air conditioning that I would like to turn on. How do I get the Nest to give me a cooling setting?

Did you recently install the Nest or was it working correctly and now isn't?

I had my furnace replaced 12/2021. I bought the Nest thermostat then and installed it at that time. It worked fine for the heat. This is the first time I have tried to use it with the a/c.
I have a photo of the wiring, but am unsure how to attach it to this message? Can you let me know how to attach the photo?

Was there another thermostat installed before you installed the Nest? If yes, then that's the picture I need. If you don't have the picture, can you post a picture of the terminal block on the control board in the furnace/air handler?

I need to see what the wires went to before the Nest was installed.

Are there also only those four wires?

Yes there was another thermostat before and no I do not have a picture of that configuration. I will post pics of the control block in the furnace handler. And yes there are just 4 wires.
I had a professional come out today and he wanted me to ask if a C wire is required for heat and cool operations? He reports there must be something wrong with the Nest because the wiring is correct, the Neat is just not picking up the cooling. He had to install a different thermostat today because it would not recognize my air conditioning. What is my next step? I really want to use my Nest products.

You have all of the correctly colored wires and they still used the blue wire for Y1, instead of the Yellow wire.

There are a couple of extra white and red wires, any idea where they go?

One pair of red and white wires should be in a cable that goes to the outside unit.

Is there a humidifier or such installed?

I personally always connect a C wire to the thermostat, especially when installing the Google Nest Thermostat. Normally I would say use the blue wire, but since they are using it I would say connect the brown wire to the B/C terminal on the control board and the C terminal on the nest.

I would strongly suggest that you do a reset to factory defaults and set the thermostat up again.

When you are asked in the app to select the wires that you have, I suggest you check these.

W/W1, R, G/G1, Y/Y1, and C (only if you connect the C wire)

I'm pretty sure you'll need a C-wire running from the furnace control board to the empty "C" slot on the Nest. 99% of the issues people have with the Nest are because the C-wire is not connected. Also, check that your "Y-wire" is connected properly, this controls cooling.

I have the EXACT issue verbatim and none of this is working. I think I’m taking it back for a refund which is unfortunate because I live alone and travel for work and I liked the option of being able to remotely adjust on hot and cool days.

I'd like to check in here if you've tried to perform a complete factory data reset on your Nest Thermostat. The step is helpful after doing some checking and transferring of wire on the terminal.

I did try a factor reset & combed the Internet for all available information. Apparently this problem is not an isolated case so I returned the Nest Thermostat. I put the Honeywell unit that preceded it back, rewired as it was and it works perfectly. I think there is obviously a documented issue with this design and I wouldn’t recommend this equipment to anyone.
It’s unfortunate because I did like its aesthetics and my ability to make changes, tie in with future ‘Home’ products in one app and monitor while traveling for work; none of that makes a difference if it can’t provide basic functionality. Thanks for responding.
