The manufacturer mentions shutting the power down when you change the wiring. If you follow their instructions and swap the red from one side to the other and then switch power back on, it won’t harm your system. It’ll either supply power or it won’t. I would give the face a 15 min charge too. If that battery is run down, a quick charge will ensure your change works when you turn the power back on.

Low Power after Several Years

Ive had my Nest thermostat for several years and it has functioned perfectly without fault. About a month ago it started saying low power. I tried taking it off the wall and charging it via the charging port on the back of the thermostat. It would hold the charge for about a week and then would show low power and disconnect from Wi-Fi again. I’ve tried flipping the breaker a few times as well in hopes it resets. Has anybody found a fix for the low battery issue after theirs worked for years?

I had a similar issue and don’t know why this worked but it did. I swapped the RC and RH wire and then a few months later had to swap it back. I can’t explain why?? No issues since.

Thanks for the reply! Did you only have a wire to the RH? Or did you have a wire to both the RC and RH? The reason I ask is currently I only have a wire going to the RH port.

Only 1 wire. I swapped it to the other port. I don’t know if it’s going to work so wander ahead cautiously. It worked for me and then I had to swap it back months later. Weird situation but haven’t had an issue since.

Thanks for answering here and for your suggestion, R6pilot.

Sims1089, I'm chiming to check how your thermostat is now? Have you had the chance to try the suggestion of R6pilot above?

Mebla,

Thanks for checking in. Is that a true fix? The reason I ask is R6pilot told me to go ahead cautiously. I don't want to mess up my system by doing something incorrectly.

Thanks,

Hi Sims1089,

Thanks for the reply here and we're sorry for the delay.

We could try the suggestion from R6pilot. Also, we could remove the Nest Thermostat display and then charge it using a USB for at least an hour.

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Regards,
