Nest thermostat with evaporative cooler?

Has anyone tried to connect a NEST thermostat to an evaporative cooling unit? If so, I'd love to hear from you and how you did it!

The Nest thermostats are compatible with most heating and cooling systems, but compatibility does vary a bit by each specific thermostat model.
