Set point changes on its own

The cooling set point on my Nest Learning Thermostat seems to change on its own. I generally set the cooling set point to 81°F and the thermostat randomly change it to 78°F. I am not sure if it is indeed random, but I have not been able to see a pattern to these changes.

Is there a way to tell the thermostat to honor my settings and not change them? Even though I am using a learning thermostat, I am controlling it via my home automation system.

I'm having the same issues. I want the thermostat set at 81° 24/7, but not getting what I want.

If you want a specific temperature (at a specific time, or all the time), you want to disable the "smart" features that allow the Nest to decide whether you're home and change its behavior accordingly. In Settings, turn off Home/Away Assist and/or turn off Presence Sensing, depending on your model or the interface you're using. Also find the setting for your Eco temperature and set it to 81, just in case Eco gets turned on.

Now the Nest should behave as a regular programmable thermostat. Set a schedule in which all of the set points are at 81.

Note that if you try to operate the Nest as an old-fashioned nonprogrammable thermostat, by simply twirling the dial to 81, that won't work because it's only temporary. The Nest will cool to 81 only until the next set point in its schedule. The other option, instead of modifying your schedule, is to turn on Eco Mode (manually) and leave it on all the time, after making sure that your Eco temperature is set to 81.

When does the Eco kick on? I can't find settings for it. I have disabled presence sensing and have set up my own timed schedules but the Eco came on all by itself. I want all other routines disabled except the ones I have set up and can't find a way to do that.

Thank you, @CBFox. Auto-Schedule was off but when I looked at the schedule there were a few points that lowered the temp to 78°F which I deleted. Hopefully they will not be recreated by the thermostat. Appreciate your quick response and helpful information.

@Ryan_Gthanks for checking in. I deleted all of the schedules and everything is now fine. I have learnt that I do not need a learning thermostat -- I have 2 of them -- as I am using Home Assistant for controlling the thermostats. I have 2 more to replace for which I will be using the regular Nest thermostats.
