Thermostat battery replacement

Wifi won't connect because the battery is low. it's 2 years old. Can it be replaced? Why does it need to be replaced?

Is it possible to operate this thermosat on a 4 wire system? It has worked for 2 years.

Does anybody here have a recommendation on an alternate brand? Maybe ecobee?

This page in Google Nest Help says: "Note: You cannot replace the batteries for the Nest Thermostat E or Nest Learning Thermostat. Instead, charge the thermostat with a USB cable."

It seems that it must have re-charged by itself. I was able to reconnect to the wifi after several attempts to enter the wifi Pw at the thermostat.

Now I have a new question and concern. How does the thermostat restart and reconnect to wifi if this happens in the winter and maybe I'm out of town for a week? In a week my pipes will be frozen. Will the thermostat re-start on it;s own and start the furnace?

nest_sucks, sorry for the delay but we're glad to hear that your thermostat is now back up and running again as it should. As for your question, it should reconnect back to your WiFi network as long as the battery level is at 3.8V or higher. We suggest installing a C wire or the Nest Power Connector so that it will have a stable power source.
